Sausage Gravy
  • 1/2 lb breakfast sausage mild, spicy, or maple-flavored
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp salt to taste
Toppings
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 eggs optional, scrambled or cracked on top
  • 1/4 cup cooked bacon crumbles optional
  • 1/2 cup hash browns optional, pre-cooked

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Skillet

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out pizza dough on a baking sheet or pizza stone. Par-bake for 8 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, cook sausage until browned and crumbly. Remove sausage, leaving drippings in the pan.
  3. Add flour to skillet drippings, whisking to form a roux. Slowly pour in milk, stirring until thickened into gravy. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Spread gravy evenly over par-baked crust. Sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheese, then add cooked sausage, bacon, or hash browns if using.
  5. Bake for 10–12 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is melted and bubbling.
  6. If adding eggs, crack or scramble them on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.
